Item Identification and appraisal of factors affecting chaplaincy services at SDA Hospital and Motherless Babies’ Home, Aba, Nigeria(Adventist University of Africa, 2026-05) Nna, Emmanuel ChidiebubeThis study investigates the factors influencing chaplaincy services at the Seventh-day Adventist Hospital and the Motherless Babies’ Home in Aba, Nigeria. Despite the recognized role of spiritual care in holistic health, chaplaincy services in this institution remain underdeveloped. The research identifies and appraises organizational, personnel, and cultural challenges that affect the delivery and effectiveness of chaplaincy. A qualitative approach was employed, involving structured interviews with healthcare staff, chaplains, and administrative personnel. Findings revealed a lack of formal chaplaincy training, understaffing, and limited institutional support as key barriers. Additionally, cultural and religious diversity posed communication challenges in patient care. The study recommends structured chaplaincy training, policy integration, and increased institutional backing to enhance spiritual care services. These insights are vital for improving holistic healthcare in faith-based and non-profit settings.
